Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a common dental procedure used to treat and save a tooth that is damaged or infected at the pulp level. During the procedure, the damaged or infected pulp is removed, and the tooth is cleaned and sealed to prevent further infection.

There are several reasons why the pulp may become infected or inflamed, including deep decay, trauma, cracks or fractures in the tooth, or extensive dental work that affects the pulp. Symptoms of pulp damage may include pain, sensitivity to hot or cold, swelling, discoloration, tenderness of the gums, or a bad taste in the mouth. However, sometimes there are no symptoms at all.

If left untreated, pulp inflammation or infection can lead to more serious dental problems, such as abscesses, bone loss, or even the loss of the affected tooth. Therefore, if you suspect that you have pulp damage, it is important to see a dentist as soon as possible for proper evaluation and treatment.

Root canal treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia, and most patients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure. After the procedure, you may experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity, but this should subside within a few days. With proper care and maintenance, a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment can last for many years, or even a lifetime.
